rock recipes

Mineral Crystals, and some examples are Gold.  Diamonds are pure carbon and only grow in perfect conditions under certain weathering.  Diamond and graphite differences are that diamonds are less stable than graphite.  The melting point of a diamond is 3550 degrees.  there are three different kinds of rocks and minerals.  There is Sediment, metamorphic and Igneous.  That concludes everything i have learned from the video on minerals and Sediments, Igneous Rocks and Metamorphic Rocks.

The Rock Cycle

 1. When magma it weathers and erodes into sediment/ combined with the combination of pressure and cementation, it turns into sedimentary rock, then heat and pressure turning it into metamorphic rock and melting at a high frequency back into magma.

2. Magma melting, weathering and erosion takes place, turns into sediment.  Pressure and cementation turning it into sedimentary rock. Melting and back into magma

3. Magma melting, goes through a stage of weathering and erosion, turning it into sediment mixed with pressure and cementation. Then forming into a sedimentary rock, goes through weathering and weathing and turns back into sediment.

 Igneous/ Obsidian

  Igneous/ Pumice

  Igneous/ Basalt

  Igneous/ Granite

Common Minerals

galena
Galena is the main source of lead is galina it is a non-silicate mineral.

Hematite
In jewerly they use hematite, a natural mineral which is a non-silicate it is also an iron ore.

pyrite
Is another name for fool’s gold is pyrite, it is a non silicate mineral.

Stibnite
Is a sulfide mineral, long metallic slender bladed crystals.

Barite
It is a mineral, also is a very heavy sulfate mineral

Halite
Is a rock salt, and is not a silicate its formula is NaCl the color is whiteness

Calcium Fluoride
is an inorganic compound with the formula CaF2, it occurs naturally

Birth Stone: Diamond

April – Diamond

is it inorganic? – Some diamonds come from volcanoes naturally and is organic

Does it occur naturally? – yes is comes from coal

is the substance a solid? – yes

Chemical compisition?- yes

it is a mineral- yes it is

how common or rare is it? – very rare, since it comes from the center of the earth pretty much, and is coal, but is heated up so hot that it forms into a solid diamond

is it valuable? – it is very valuable, a diamond that is about 2 inches in length is worth about 3,000$

where on earth might we find large deposits on them? – they are found in india, brazil, siberia and south africa.

The Sun

The sun is a star, it is one out of a billion of stars.  It rotates every 27 days, a middle aged star aswell.  The sun will be shinging for atleast another 5 billion years.  The sun is hot, its photosphere is 10,000 degrees fahrenheit.  The sun is big, its diameter is about 870,000 miles wide and 109 times wider than earth and is 333,000 times heavier.  Its titled and the earth orbits the sun every 365 days.  The moon reflects the sun’s light.

Telescopes: FAQ

A telescope does two things. It gathers light from faint distant objects and it magnifies those objects. There are different telescope designs to do this, but the basic idea remains the same in all of them a lens or mirror gathers light and concentrates it so the image can be examined by a magnifying eyepiece

We have 3 main telescopes used all the time by scientists, Astronomers etc.  They are Refactors

What size telescope is best?

DO NOT BUY A TELESCOPE BASED ON POWER!!!

If a telescope has “650x” (or any other reference to power) prominently displayed on the side of the box, walk away – No RUN AWAY. Even the best telescopes are limited to about 50x-75x per inch (25.4mm) of aperture. For an inexpensive 60mm refractor this equals 120x. So “650x” is just a marketing ploy to get you buy their inexpensive scope. Although this practice is not as common as it once was, still… Do not buy a telescope based on its power! Do not buy a telescope based on its power!!

(How big will a telescope make things appear?) –

A: a telescope is found by divding the focal length of the objective by the local length of the eyepiece.

(WHAT IS THE BEST TYPE OF TELESCOPE?)

A:  there is no best type of telescope, just as there is no best type of automobile.  like some are cheaper, some are simpler to operate.

(WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE THROUGH A TELESCOPE?)

A:  most telescopes with apertures of four inches or more will be able to show you craters on the moon.

binary stars, pulars and quasars

binary stars are pairs of stars that revolve around each other in the galaxy.

pular stars are neutron stars that has two beams of radiation that sweep across space

quasar stars are starlike objects that gives off radio waves and x-ays

Star Groups

Characteristics that identify a constellation –  They are groups of stars formed by gasses like hydrogen and helium.

Three main types of galaxies –  (spiral) its like a spiral of stars or a ring like thing. kinda like the one on saturn. The Milky Way

A pattern of stars <—–> Constellation

Fixed Pattern = Doesnt Change / Move

– The Big Bang Theory –  The Big Bang Theory is an explosion that happend.  Scientists say thats how the universe started.

There is proof that the big band theory has exploded.  but also Galaxies are moving apart  its called (Red Shift)

Aries

Greek mythology states that the king of thessaly had two children who abused, by their stepmother were rescued by a ram sent by the god hermes.

has a magnitude of 2.01

the Sun appears in the constellation Aries from April 19 to May 13. InTropical the Sun is considered to be in the sign aires from March 21 to April 20, and in Sidereal astrology from April 15 to May 15.

also three united states navy ships have been named after the constellation Aries which is pretty interesting.

Aries is a zodiacal constellation representing the ram of the Golden Fleece sought by Jason and the Argonauts. The ram had originally been presented to Nephele by Mercury when her husband took a new wife, Ino, who persecuted Nephele’s children. To keep them safe, Nephele sent Phrixus and Helle away on the back of the magical ram, who flew away to the east. Helle fell off into the Hellespont (now the Dardanelles) between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara, but Phrixus safely made it to Colchis on the eastern shore of the Black Sea. Phrixus sacrificed the ram and presented the Golden Fleece to the king, Aeetes.

Also the NGC is 722 which shows up as a faint, pretty small, little elongated in PA 90 and is not brighter in the middle at 135X. This galaxy is close to Beta Aries at 1 hr 54.8 min and 20 41.

The myth of leo;

The zodiacal constellation Leo is generally accepted to represent the Nemean Lion, killed by Hercules during his first labor. According to myth, the Nemean lion had an impenetrable skin. Hercules got around this potentially serious obstacle by wrestling the lion and strangling it to death. He then removed one of its claws, and used it to skin the animal. From then on, Hercules wore the skin of the Nemean Lion as protection.

Leo contains many bright galaxies, Messier 65, Messier 66, Messier 95, Messier 96, Messier 105, and NGC 3628 are the most famous, the first two being part of the Leo Triplet.

The Leo Ring, a cloud of hydrogen and helium gas, is found in orbit of two galaxies found within this constellation.

Its deep sky objects are;
